Precision Electron Diffraction (PED)

Precision Electron Diffraction is the equivalent to Burger precision technique for XRD machines. In the electron precession technique, the electron beam is tilted and precessed along a conical surface, having a common axis with the TEM optical axis. As a result this technique has following advantages:

-more reflections in the reciprocal lattice are visible than in SAD patterns

-reflection diffracted intensity is much closer to the integrated intensity values

-the diffraction patterns can be considered more as kinematically images (like the images of a XRD machine) than dynamic ones.

In conclusion there are less disturbing influences and the interpretation of the images is much easier than for normal SAD images.
